Description

The Directional Drilling Manager works under the guidance of the Operations Director and he/she will direct responsibilities on a daily basis. The Directional Drilling Manager position will be primarily responsible for leading and managing all directional drilling services provided to intercompany and external clients within local, state and federal regulation guidelines as well as North Star policies, programs and practices.

Plan and execute all phases of boring operations, including areas of service preparation, coordination and dispatching of employees and equipment to meet job requirements.
• View all aspects of operations from the perspective of superb customer experience and continuous improvement.
• Ensure that standards for operations, equipment and operator performance are maintained in order to provide consistent premium-quality service and results for Company clients.
• Ensure that supervisors and employees adhere to Company policies and administer practices in a fair and equitable manner.
• Work in close coordination with Business Development to develop, maintain and support strong client relationships. Provide technical support in client meetings and in the preparation of quotes. Create opportunities to outsource boring operations during time periods where intercompany requirements are not a priority.
• Develop and manage plans for the efficient use of equipment, materials and personnel before, during and after field work completion.
• Determine need for equipment and supplies and maintain appropriate levels of inventory.
• Monitor the daily progress of active jobs and review daily cost/revenue and field reports.
• Partner with HR to hire, train, develop and evaluate employees effectively. Take corrective action as necessary in a timely manner and in accordance with Company policy.
• As appropriate, escalate to Director of Operations issues including those related to safety, scheduling, costs, staffing and equipment.
• Available on a 24/7 call basis to respond to client needs.

• Assist in performing repairs and maintenance on diesel vehicles to maximize safe and productive operations.

• Oversee planning and scheduling of all repair work to reduce lost productivity.

Position Summary

Responsibilities

Other duties assigned as needed in regards to Equipment Fleet Management:

• Coordinates with operational managers the movement of equipment to and from job sites.
• Acquires 3rd party truck and equipment rentals based on need.
• Negotiates rental contracts for best price, and conducts all business transactions within negotiated commercial terms and conditions.
• Issues PO’s for rentals in an efficient and timely manner.
• Coordinates 3rd party rental units, and assigns unit numbers to all equipment.
• Effectively utilize and manage multiple tracking systems such as Dispatcher, Sagequest, and Fuelman to provide reports to management relating to equipment performance.
• Reviews reporting on equipment utilization and reports to Operation Managers
• Ensures accurate reporting on equipment utilization performance as it relates to projects and the equipment over/under account.
• Provides input on the optimization of equipment management processes and procedures.
• Identifies opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement.
• Develops equipment requirement forecasts, and plans accordingly, based on feedback from Project Managers.
• Responsible for vehicle registrations and licensing.
• Determines which light duty vehicles should be leased and which should be owned.
• Assists in the development of vehicle replacement policies to ensure vehicle costs are minimized through a balance of owned and leased trucks.
• Required to travel short duration for field audits

The ideal candidate has had experience running crews, familiarity with construction terminologies, and familiarity with Ditch Witch drilling equipment. This person must be familiar with construction terms and directing crew members.

The Operator should be flexible, having the ability to transfer from one task to another that vary in demand. They must also have enough self-direction to perform the task without close supervision. This person will be responsible for operating Ditch Witch directional drill equipment.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities
• Manage day-to-day aspects of completing the assigned job in an efficient and timely manner.
• Analyze One-Call’s making sure they are current and completed and there are no utilities in the area.
• Enforce all safety rules and regulations, as well as making sure that first aid kits and emergency numbers are available in case of emergencies.
• Forward all reports, receipts, and daily logs to the office each day.
• Assess the equipment to make sure it is in good working condition, and that maintenance is performed in a timely manner.
• Attain a proper knowledge of the construction project and maintain a high standard of quality control at all times.
• Locating and fusing experience preferred but not required.
